Top 5: Greenshowroom Berlin

From the 19th to 22nd of January, 39 international fashion brands presented their new collections at Greenshowroom during Berlin Fashion Week A/W 2016. Check out my top five of the tradefair. Enjoy!

Abury Collection: A Non-Existent Tribe

Pam Samasuwo-Nyawiri, designer from Zimbabwe, spent two months in Ecuador creating a handbag collection with local artisans as part of Abury Design Experience 2015. You can see the results—six handbags made of leather, bast, and alpaca wool, each one named after the artisan who worked on it—in March when it will be officially launched. The collection was inspired by mixing references of the Himba tribes of Namibia and indigenous people of Ecuador and their techniques. Abury reinvests 50% percent of the profits into education projects in the respective countries.



allSisters is a Barcelona-based swimwear brand that uses recycled textiles made from plastic bottles and fishing nets (read more about this process in “Fishing nets are the new plastic bottles for fashion”). Produced in Italy, the fabrics have OEKO-TEX certification, which means that they are tested for harmful substances and are made in environmentally friendly facilities.


Werner 1911

Made from natural leather, chrome-free, and vegetable tanned (with olive oil), Werner is a traditional German family business that has been producing shoes since 1911. After 100 years, the manufacturing is still made exclusively in Europe, and all the raw materials come from Germany or neighbor countries.


Rich & Vibrant

Designed in Sweden and made in Turkey, these socks are made from GOTS certified organic cotton, which ensures that the cotton lives up to strict rules during the production, processing, and manufacturing. It also ensures that employees have good and safe working conditions. There is no bleach, no fertilizer, or pesticides used (the other materials are nylon and elastane). The packaging is made from recyclable paper using vegetable-based inks and chemical-free printing plates. The carbon footprint is offset through supporting the Bandirma wind energy project in Turkey. The brand also supports animal rights and donates to HAYTAP, an animal rights federation, with every single order—HAYTAP is the first animal rights federation of Turkey, gathering all associations that have the same opinions on the issues of the protection of nature, the environment, and animal rights.



The label may say "sustainable shirts for men" but who cares for gender definition nowadays? Carpasus shirts are labelled bioRe Cotton, which covers the full supply chain from cotton cultivation to tailoring and makes sure that high environmental and social standards are respected. The garments are made from 100% percent organic cotton from India. There are no pesticides or genetically modified cotton seeds nor monocultures. The brand also avoids toxic chemicals and reduces water consumption and the use of non-renewable materials. The CO2 emissions from cotton cultivation are compensated in the area where the cotton is growing. The farmers who provide the cotton are granted a purchase guarantee and a 15% premium for their organic cotton. You can trace the entire process with the code sewn into the shirts. The production is in Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
